Captured on film: tenant wrecking car with paint stripper

A resident who threw chemical paint stripper over another resident’s car has been found guilty of criminal damage after being caught on CBHA’s covert cameras.

When the victim first found one side of her car covered in the corrosive fluid, she reported it to the police. But they were unable to help because there was no evidence. The resident also spoke to anti-social behaviour (ASB) officers at CBHA.

The ASB officer said: “As it had happened twice in a fortnight, we thought it may happen again so we set up some miniature covert cameras.  The following day we came out to have a look and found we had a suspect on film who appeared to have returned in the daylight to see the damage he had done.”

He said: “We rang the police to tell them we had some evidence and this then helped his conviction. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, with 80 hours of community work and £200 court costs.”

In addition, CBHA has served a Notice of Seeking Possession to evict the tenant.

The ASB officer added: “At CBHA, we take cases of anti-social behaviour very seriously because we want to improve the quality of life for any residents who are suffering neighbour nuisance problems.

“We have sophisticated monitoring equipment such as digital, high-resolution miniature cameras and the footage from them can be used as evidence by the police.”
