CBHA Gets Greener

CBHA is taking further steps to help protect the environment and build for a “greener” sustainable future. Reducing CO2 emissions, saving energy, and recycling waste are all high priorities in CBHA’s environmental policy.

Some of our staff members recently received training on building for a sustainable future from Global Action Plan. This enabled them to develop an environmental strategy which can help make a positive difference.

Tom Fleming and David Childs attended the course. Tom said: “It was really useful. One of the first things we are doing is working out CBHA’s carbon footprint. The carbon footprint means the greenhouse gases that CBHA produces through its work and services. Then we can look at reducing our carbon emissions.”

CBHA’s 10 golden rules for “going greener” are to:

1. Switch of electrics and chargers when not in use
2. Turn off taps after use
3. Don’t print/copy unless and until you have to
4. Print/copy double-sided where possible
5. Use the most eco-friendly transport for your journey
6. Recycle paper, plastics, cardboard, toner cartridges etc
7. Communicate in the most economical way (email, phone etc)
8. Deliver flyers without envelopes where possible
9. Encourage environmental thinking with CBHA residents
10. Encourage self-regulation with other team members.

Being environmentally aware will inform new property development and the day-to-day running of CBHA’s area offices. Partners and contractors will be expected to comply with best practice in green issues too.

Look out for further information about how you can be “greener” and save money on energy bills in your CBHA home.
