CBHA Mentors

19 February 2010

About 16 CBHA staff have agreed to become volunteer mentors to girls in their late teens who are in need of extra support.

The employees will have training certified by the Chartered Institute of Housing before being teamed up with a teenager. They will then contact the young person regularly, building a relationship of trust and respect. They will provide advice and support with a non-judgemental approach.

If the teenager has decisions to make, worries or just needs to talk something over with an adult, they can telephone or meet up with their mentor. Themes that might be covered could include conflict resolution, pregnancy prevention, healthy living, goal setting, tutoring or career development.

Head of Community Development Roz Gordon said: “The mentors are ethnically diverse and it is expected that they will be positive role models for the young people, showing that everyone has choices and opportunities for what they do with their lives, no matter what their background is or where they live.”
