Some older CBHA residents took the chance to get active at their local leisure centres on International Older Person Day. They joined Waltham Forest’s celebration of the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society.
Leisure centres in the district invited all residents of 55 and over to take part in activities including yoga, dance, pilates, short tennis, badminton and board games for free.
The theme of this year’s Older Person Day was staying active in later life. The day aimed to tackle negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes about older people. Enjoying a positive later life benefits each of us individually and society as a whole.
In addition to people joining in at their leisure centre, residents at CBHA’s two sheltered schemes – Welcome Court and Doreen Capstan House – got together for a quiz and afternoon tea to mark the occasion.
