Street parties bring community together

13 May 2011

Street PartyCBHA residents got into the community spirit with three separate street parties to celebrate the royal wedding.

Volunteers Linda Magill and Kay Parmenter organised a party in Chingford for more than 60 local people. There was a huge projector to watch Wills and Kate tie the knot, while food, a raffle, bouncy castle and face painting kept the residents chatting till late afternoon.

Linda said: “There was a real mixture of different cultures at the street party and everyone joined in. It was so lovely to see the community coming together.”

Meanwhile, in Leytonstone, volunteer Liz Willis organised a similar event at Langthorne Park.

And at CBHA’s sheltered accommodation Welcome Court, staff laid on a party this week. A singer dressed as a pearly queen entertained the residents. The sun shone while the barbecue sizzled.
