Two residents convicted of drugs offences

19 April 2011

A Leyton resident has been evicted by CBHA and another has a Conditional Possession Order for drugs offences after CBHA took them to Bow County Court.

In the first case, CBHA gained outright possession. The home of the first resident was raided by police who discovered a Class A drugs-making factory set up inside. He had equipment for producing heroin and cocaine, together with barrels of paracetamol and caffeine which are commonly used to bulk up drug supplies. He is now serving eight years for the production of a controlled drug. He has been evicted.

In the second case in the same area, the judge granted a Conditional Possession Order, suspended for 18 months. Class  A drugs were seized at the property. The conditions were that if the defendant committed an indictable offence anywhere in the country, CBHA could apply for immediate possession.

The judge said he made the order conditionally because the defendant had turned his life around and was now on a plumbing course. There had also been no further evidence of anti-social behaviour (ASB) from the property.

Head of support services Michala Jervis said: “As an organisation committed to supporting life-style changes, we were also very pleased with the outcome of the second case and feel confident the tenant fully understands his situation.”

She said: “CBHA has promised to use all necessary tools possible to combat ASB and we will continue to do this to allow our residents to enjoy their homes. We will seek Possession Orders on any residents found guilty of illegal activities in or around their homes.”

In addition to dealing with cases of residents causing anti-social behaviour, CBHA has also gained an injunction against other known criminals coming onto CBHA areas.
