...And action! Young People from CBHA neighbourhoods are part of a group putting on the first ever short film festival for the youth and by the youth of Waltham Forest.
The films, which have been created by Markhouse Ward youth groups after training from BoldFace Productions, will be shown at the A!ive Festival at the Outset Centre, Walthamstow, on Saturday June 25 from 3pm to 6pm.
All films are under five minutes long and focus on social issues that are relevant to them and their local community. They include:
• London Life by Meriem and Xhilda which aims to show the positive aspects of the capital to combat its negative press.
• On Da Streetz by Usama, Ismatullah, Hannah and Khyam which is a light-hearted film looking at stereotypes of young people in the area.
• We Are Who We Are by Kofo, Jennifer and Kuzaima which asks what people consider beauty, and what makes them what they are.
• Age-Gap by Usama, Ismatulla, Kofo and Kuzaima, which tackles stereotypes of the young and old generation.
• Multi-culturalism in Waltham Forest by Jennifer, Hannah, Khyam and Keisha which explores the different cultures and how they live together.
The event will also include live performances by local artists. The film screening will be followed by a Q&A with Waltham Forest councillors and CBHA’s head of community development, Roz Gordon.
One of the young film-makers, Khyam, 15 from Walthamstow, said: “We have worked the whole process ourselves, from the writing to the editing. It’s totally created by us, for our friends and the wider community”
Roz said: "CBHA is happy to support initiatives that empower young people and develop partnerships. It is great to see resources increased, ensuring positive activities are made available that support the needs of local people and that can be showcased to the wider community."
The event is open to all young people in the borough, and tickets are available by registering on the Al!ve Festival event page on Facebook or call 0207 378 3211 or email ray@boldfaceproductions.co.uk.
