Builders have started work at the site of an eco-friendly CBHA development in Walthamstow. Planning permission was granted for CBHA and architects HTA to create 30 new homes, thanks to an interesting design and 21st century technology.
Clayton Court, Higham Hill, will include houses with gardens, two bedroom flats with balconies, two houses suitable for people with disabilities and one large family home.
The development will attain Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 thanks to its green credentials. A ground heat source pump will draw water from deep in the earth where it is slightly warmer. This will be used for hot water and a modern under floor heating system.
By drawing water that is a few degrees warmer, a lot of energy can be saved. There will also be recycling facilities, bike storage and high quality insulation.
Nine of the homes will be for sub-market price rent and it will be possible for the residents of these to buy their homes or enter into shared ownership in the future. The rest of the properties will be for affordable rent.
Building will take about 18 months to complete.
• Planning permission has been granted for 10 new houses to be built at Oliver Road. The traditional back to back terraced houses will fit in with the existing homes in the area.
