Three find jobs working with children
Three young people have started work at a nursery school as part of the Future Jobs Fund (FJF), thanks to CBHA’s employment and training team. And one has already been offered a permanent post.
The three 18 to 24-year-olds are all working at Climbers Kids Club, Walthamstow. Under FJF, they must have been unemployed for six months. Their wages are paid by the Department of Work and Pensions for six months and the idea is that the employer could take them on after that.
Siobhan Rahaman, 22, started as a nursery assistant in February. Climbers director Karin Haylock has been so impressed with her that she has now offered her a permanent full-time position. Karin said: “She has been fantastic. She has fitted in to the team really well and the children love her.”
Siobhan said: “I had been unemployed for about eight months. I had studied travel and tourism and had voluntary work experience. I badly needed a job because I lost my father a few years ago and my mum has just retired due to ill health. I wanted the job so I could help her.
“I had applied to hundreds of companies but not found a job. When I started here I realised how much I like being with the children. I love it. It is amazing.” Siobhan attends college once a week to study for an NVQ level II in childcare.
More recently Neise Lelis started as a nursery assistant and Louise Burns as an administration assistant. Karin said she was very pleased with both of them. Neise, who has a qualification in youth work, is moving to Climbers after school club as she would prefer to work with older children.
Karin added: “If either of them would like to continue here after the FJF six months ends, we would be delighted to have them.”
