Improve your prospects with Personal Best

CBHA is encouraging some of its residents to join a groundbreaking training project called Personal Best.

The programme is run by the London Development Agency and the Learning and Skills Council to help some of the city's most disadvantaged to improve their job prospects.

Some of those on Personal Best helped steward the Torch Relay as one of their colleagues from Newham carried the Olympic flame over Tower Bridge.

Head of economic development Sharon Wint-Gordon said: “Personal Best uses the excitement of the 2012 Games to promote training for an accredited volunteering qualification while also offering participants support into further volunteering, training or work.

“We would love to see some of our residents getting involved and would ask any that do become Personal Best volunteers to let us know.”

Personal Best is currently running in 11 boroughs and will be rolled out London-wide from this spring. So far, 15% of the 370 graduates from the programme have moved into jobs, 42% have taken up further training and 33% have opted for volunteering opportunities. In total, the programme is expected to benefit up to 20,000 Londoners.

Sharon said: “Personal Best is about giving people the skills and confidence to make that first step into the job market, training courses or into a volunteer placement. Ultimately, we expect it to lead to qualifications and employment.”
