Tenants rent
Your rent is the most important financial commitment you have. If you do not pay your rent, you can lose your home, so you should make your rent your first priority, above any other financial commitments you have. If you cannot pay for any reason, you should contact CBHA straight away. We can offer advice on dealing with debt and arrears.
If you are on a low income and cannot afford to pay your rent, you may be entitled to housing benefit to help you. You are responsible for making the claim and making sure that the local authority has all the information it needs. You should provide any information the local authority asks for about benefits as soon as possible to avoid any delay in making a payment.
Your rent pays for the services we provide to you and for improvements to your home. By signing your tenancy agreement, you agree to:
- make sure your rent is paid every Monday for the week ahead
- tell us about any changes in your circumstances, or if you are going away for a period of time, for example, a long holiday or a stay in hospital (you should also notify your housing benefit office)
- keep to any agreements you make with us to pay your rent
- tell us about any changes to your Housing Benefit
