Making your home secure
Here are some tips for securing your home against intended or opportunistic burglaries
-
Use the locks fitted to your windows, but keep the keys nearby in case you need to escape quickly. Close and lock all your doors and windows when you go out and leave a light on in the evening
-
Don’t let anyone you don’t know into your property without looking carefully at their identity card. If in doubt, keep them out
-
Always cancel deliveries when you are going away to avoid them piling up on your doorstep. Ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your home while you are away
-
Take photographs of your valuables and make a note of the serial numbers of your TV, DVD player, video and stereo etc…
-
Consider joining your local neighbourhood watch scheme. These are in operation on all four areas and details are available from your area office
